I Peter 5:5-7: Humility

Gird yourselves as slaves,
Bravely take the plunge,
Humility of mind,
To each and everyone.
For God His host arraying,
Is ever pride dismaying.

Surrender to His grace,
Placing Him as first,
Humble to His hand,
Obedience converse.
That soon the Lord’s Anointed,
Exalts you when appointed.

In every thing give thanks,
Banking on this word:
This is the will of God,
His mighty hand concurred.
His hand is always guiding,
All those in Him abiding.

If you would mighty be,
Fleeing first you fall,
Till nothing you achieve,
Before He gives you all.
Like David, Job, and Jesus,
Humility must seize us.

Cast on Him your cares:
Tares will be removed,
Anxiety be damned!
Sin, criminally proved.
You’re less concerned and worse than,
Your God cares for your person.

God knows all your hairs,
Caring for your tears,
Measured all your tossing,
Written clean and clear.
Will you be humble wholly,
Since God cares for you fully?

  1. Want to know something totally awesome that will send chills down your spine? God counted every hair on year head. He has it written down in a book. He know the exact number. He also has counted the number of times that you roll over in you sleep, and the volume of the tears you have cried. Think about that for a moment. What is God compared to us, and what are we compared to God? Isn’t is scary to even try to compare us? Yet even though we are and will ever be infinitely bellow God, he takes the time and the care to record intimate details about us — details about ourselves that we don’t even know. That truth, more than anything else in my life makes me want to through myself at God’s feet in total, abandon humility. How can we not be humble when He has showed such humility Himself?
