“En Garde!” (I John 5:17-21)

Let the truth be your saber and grace be your guide,
For there never was sin who in God do abide,
And in confidence labor with God to defend,
First to pardon and now then to keep us from sin.

Come stand at your guard and hold out your sword,
Defending the honor of Jesus your Lord,
Thus kept by your God who will guide and will prod,
Being sure then that you have been born out of God.

Keep a watch out for sin that in snares will impair,
And for idols and all that to God you compare,
You must gird up your armor and stand and resist,
For the Lord blesses all who in faith will persist.

Oh! the Devil can’t strike with the Lord to defend,
And the Son is arriving – no start and no end,
And He gives us His spirit, all Three then will fight,
They will frustrate the foe-man to win us His bride!

Before the Awesome Throne of God (I John 5:14-16)

Before the awesome throne of God,
In confidence we bring our prayer,
For in His will He listens well,
Our intercession finished there.
O saint! He always hears,
Your words have reached His ears.

Before the awesome throne of God,
We will for what our Father wills,
We wait and wish for Him to give,
As He has waited to fulfill.
Your Father loves to act,
Then never fear to ask.

Before the awesome throne of God,
We emulate our Savior’s grace,
To intercede as He has done,
And for our wayward brother pray:
Redemption then our plea,
For which we bend our knee.

Before the awesome throne of God,
When judgment comes upon all sin,
We can not pity those condemned,
But lovingly must side with Him.
The hardened rebel warned,
And given to the Lord.

Before the awesome throne of God,
My brothers, never cease to pray!
For know your prayer bears the strength,
To both withhold or bring the rain.
Oh, pray therefore for life!
Redemption born through Christ.

Loving the Unlovable (I John 4:2-5:2)

To love the Father, love His child,
For if you hate His son in heart,
Then you are shown a loveless liar,
Devoid of God, blind in the dark.
If you hate him whom God appointed,
For you to fellowship on earth,
Then how can you love His Anointed,
The Son invisible to search?

And this is what the Lord’s commanding,
The primest of the christian goals:
To love our neighbor, undemanding,
To make our love for God more whole.
For those who love God do His bidding,
Place Him as Lord over your life.
Surrender to Him unremitting,
To answer but the will of Christ.

For will the Father heed our prayer,
Who hate the brother that He loves?
You are related – neither greater,
And fellow heirs of Jesus’ blood.
Then love on earth his imperfection,
To show your love for God who saved,
Both you and him through resurrection,
When He ascended from the grave.
