Pain (Luke 23:44-49)

What has the Father done,
In punishing His son?
What wrath has He imposed,
To treat Him as His foe?
To such a torture sent,
His body bruised and bent,
In naked shame displayed,
To suffocate in pain,
While dogs and vultures swarm,
To desecrate His form.
Is this the price of sin?
The Son of God condemned.
You secret-keepers see,
The cost then to redeem.
Behold your Savior’s pain,
Why shrink, then, from His name?
Will you not yet confess,
This King of Righteousness,
Before the courts of man?
Or else would you be damned?
What mercy God has shown,
Redeeming us – His foes.
The risen Christ revealed,
His horrid wounds now sealed.
We’re summoned to His throne,
He calls us all His own!

Children of God (I John 3:1-10)

Then you are a child of God,
Thus like Him, though formed of the sod,
Reborn by His passion and blood,
You’re made in His semblance, and saved from your sin.

You bear, then, His image, His seed:
The Word He has given to heed.
Adopted as children, indeed,
The Spirit indwelling to make us His kin.

And He as the father-hood mold,
All human relations, behold,
Reflect but the model He told,
Analogous meant to reflect us to Him.

So break illegitimate ties,
The world, they our Father despise,
Not sold to their sin or their vise,
But joined to the church, the bride He defends.

And you both know God and have seen,
Made holy as He’s always been,
Not guilty, or lawless, but clean,
Beholding that love, and named after Him.

Ephesians 1:1-14: Good News

God chose us not through works we’ve done,
Obtained adoption for His own,
Our free redemption through His son,
Done at the cross – our sin’s atoned,
Now making all His mysteries known,
Entitled as heirs of His throne,
Within His Spirit sealed and grown –
So, for His glory, grace was shown!
