Deliver Me From Evil (Psalm 41:5-13)

My enemies expect my death, destruction of my name,
Disseminating lies and scheming scandals for my shame.
They’re misers of iniquity and men who hoard their sin,
My faithful friend who ate my food turned foe-man in the end!

O, dearest Lord, but You and You alone deliver me,
Give grace and get me up at once again Your call I’ll seek.
By this I know You heard my hollering for help and aid:
If these malicious men may never marshall troops in might arrayed.

I know that You deserve my praise, since You were pleased with me,
For You positioned me that You might hear my prayers and pleas,
You hallowed me and cleansed me of abhorrent calumny,
The Lord be praised in every age, amen eternally!

Justice (Psalm 35:19-28)

O Lord, behold my enemies,
Their tongues are full of lies,
With winking in their eyes,
Their hearts are full of treacheries,
Deception all they speak,
And never seeking peace.

They rise in falsehood in the court,
With open mouths they lean,
And say, “our eyes have seen!”
O Lord, hear then their false report?
Then be not far from me,
Nor in this silence be.

Arise in justice for my case!
For You know what is right,
So for Your servant fight.
And put back justice in its place,
In righteousness ascend,
And put their joy to end.

Do not then let them be content,
Who say, “our dream’s fulfilled,
We’ve swallowed and we’ve killed.”
Since they rejoiced in wickedness,
Their face will blush with shame,
That they might seek Your name.

Yet those who seek Your righteousness,
Will sing in joyful state,
Proclaiming God is great.
I think then on Your faithfulness,
Affirming day and night,
That You are good and right.

Arise, O Lord (Psalm 35:1-10)

Arise, O Lord, and hear my plight,
And for my vindication fight!
I will not for myself contend,
But trust that You will now defend.

Arise, O Lord, with buckler born,
And bring my shield: the faith I’ve sworn,
Unsheathe the spear snatched from my foe,
The strength of Your salvation shown.

Arise, O Lord, and bring dismay,
On those who seek my life for prey,
Turn back their course, confuse their plots,
Bring them to shame, their plans to naught.

Arise, O Lord, Your angel send,
To chase the wicked to their end,
Their way be perilous and dark,
And dread of God consume their heart.

Arise, O Lord, their pit is laid,
Their net disguised for feet that strayed,
Destroy the foe’s insidious plots,
Let him within his net be caught.

Arise, O Lord, and hear my praise,
A song of Your salvation raised,
Let all my bones exalt Your deeds,
Who helps the one who was in need.
