Hardened Hearts (Hebrews 3:7-19)

The voice of God is calling,
My brothers, do you hear?
Oh, listen to that calling,
And humbly bend your ear.
Let not your heart be hardened;
Oh, dreadful peril that!
For you are then God’s foe-man,
And you will stir His wrath.
Remember then the wonders,
God did in pharaoh’s court?
His disbelieving blunders,
Provoked God’s dread retort.
Or what of the damnation,
Of Sodom and of Tyre?
Each fell in conflagration,
In brimstone and in fire.
For every doomed rebellion,
All men to God opposed,
He justly did expel them –
Oh, be not Jesus’ foe!
No! Fight to stay receptive,
And hold on to your faith.
Eschew all that’s deceptive,
But on God’s Spirit wait.
Remember God is gracious,
And He has called to you.
So turn your heart to praises,
And meditate on truth!

Condemnation (Romans 8:1-17)

A God who has condemned us with His law,
Demanding nothing but perfection.
Like beasts we plead for life; we thrash, we claw,
No hope for mercy or protection.

A God who has condemned Himself instead,
Enduring even crucifixion,
And then is resurrected from the dead,
To free us of our sin-addiction.

Then where is condemnation? It is gone,
For who condemns what God’s forgiven?
So we are free through Jesus’ work alone,
Renewed, our mind is Spirit-driven.

Our flesh, though dead in rotten, rebel sin,
Is now infused with life in Spirit,
He pulls our minds away from lusts of men,
And speaks God’s word that we may hear it.

We’re saved! And yet the Spirit works again,
After He gives us Jesus’ merit,
He changes us, adopting us to Him,
That we the living God inherit!

King’s Orders (Acts 1:1-5)

You do not choose what you were called to do.
The one who calls, the King, commands to you.
He issued orders, and you must obey,
No matter what excuses you may say.
But you are called to share the Gospel news,
If you the Holy Spirit has infused,
For God has named us witness to His word,
So we must preach the message we have heard.
Then trust in Him, for He empowers you,
To do His work and preach that precious news.
God works through weakness just as you or me,
To summon son into eternity.
