Holy Spirit, Comforter

Dear Holy Spirit, Comforter,
Though I have never prayed to Thee,
But why have I not prayed before,
Since I acclaim Thee in the Three?
Because I know the least of Thee,
Thus nervous to commune in prayer,
Though Thou art quick to intercede,
And art my Helper ever there.
Yet comfort now I greatly need,
And I believe Thou givest free,
To all the chosen of God’s seed.
Both help, and comfort give to me!
But most I long to hear Thy voice,
Whom never I have heard to speak,
For I’ve communed and have rejoiced,
When Jesus or Jehovah speaks.
But now I come to hear from Thee,
For whom I know no proper name,
Though Thou hast often counseled me,
And with Jehovah are the same.
Communion I would seek with Thee,
And this the reason that I pray.
All persons of the Trinity,
I long to know to better praise!
O Father, give me strength and might,
O Jesus give me sanctity,
O Spirit give me pure insight,
That I may serve the Trinity.
Amen.

Testing the Spirit (I John 4:1-6)

A million spirits, words and souls,
In contradiction claiming truth,
Each seeks to make your spirit whole,
But most will rape or murder you.
Then how discern their end intent,
Or how to sort the true from false?
Trust not in feeling or your bent,
Or what the popular exalt.
The truth is not in Hollywood,
Or on the streets of walls and wars,
The world brings only pain and blood,
When married to her many whores.
The truth is found in Jesus Christ,
And in His scripture guided all.
For He himself is Word of Life,
And brings salvation by His call.
So seek the truth in Him alone,
And test all spirits by His Word,
His Spirit shines when truth is shown,
For Scripture is all truth we heard.

Abide (I John 2:26-29)

I write to you concerning those,
Who try to lead astray,
Those on the narrow way,
The antichrists, the church’s foes,
Like planets wandering,
To hell their converts bring.

The Holy Spirit dwells in you,
And He supplies your need,
And guides your thoughts and deeds,
And He will show you what is true.
Accept Him as your guide,
And in His help abide.

The Word of God must guard your mind,
It searches soul and hearts,
Dividing flesh apart,
And let it all your actions bind,
The Bible at your side,
And in His Word abide.

The righteousness of God will show,
Within those called by Him,
His blood erases sin.
Not in your works, as you should know.
Then sacrifice your pride,
And in His works abide.

Dear children, oh! abide in Christ!
His Spirit, Word, and grace,
That when you see His face,
You do not shrink or flee His sight,
But rushing to His side,
In confidence abide.
