Hardened Hearts (Hebrews 3:7-19)

The voice of God is calling,
My brothers, do you hear?
Oh, listen to that calling,
And humbly bend your ear.
Let not your heart be hardened;
Oh, dreadful peril that!
For you are then God’s foe-man,
And you will stir His wrath.
Remember then the wonders,
God did in pharaoh’s court?
His disbelieving blunders,
Provoked God’s dread retort.
Or what of the damnation,
Of Sodom and of Tyre?
Each fell in conflagration,
In brimstone and in fire.
For every doomed rebellion,
All men to God opposed,
He justly did expel them –
Oh, be not Jesus’ foe!
No! Fight to stay receptive,
And hold on to your faith.
Eschew all that’s deceptive,
But on God’s Spirit wait.
Remember God is gracious,
And He has called to you.
So turn your heart to praises,
And meditate on truth!

The Raging (Psalm 2)

I see the nations raging,
With plotting in conspiracy,
In blasphemy engaging,
They meditate on vanity.
They wish to loose the fetters,
And break the bonds to become free,
Yet His laws make all better,
His bonds are reason, gravity.

I see the Son arising!
Be quick to kiss His hands and feet,
And flee from your despising,
That path but leads to your defeat.
Those found in insurrection,
He laughs at them and levels them,
Yet in His resurrection,
He cleanses those who turn to Him.

Balaam’s Anarchy (Jude 8-11)

Three types of men of whom we read,
Subverting truth in these three ways:
Ungodly words and thoughts and deeds,
Pretend to grace while license seed,
And from Christ’s kingship turn away.

For they have turned to futile dreams,
In libertine defilement,
Who make their bodies full unclean,
Rebellion is the food they glean,
And on anarchy fully bent,

When Satan comes then to accuse,
Stoop not to disrespect your head,
For Michael, standing for the Jews,
Asked only that the Lord rebuke,
When incensed by what Satan said.

Stoop therefore not as foolish beasts,
Abusing all familiar things,
And always on their lusting feast,
While mocking what they can not see,
Swift judgment on them Jesus brings.

Beware of Cain whose bitterness,
Towards God led him to swiftly kill,
Beware of Balaam and his press,
Beware of Karah’s restlessness,
Licentious anarchy instilled.

Receive the words that Jesus gave,
Acknowledge Him as your true head,
For He alone has power to save,
And free us from rebellion’s grave,
And raise our spirits from the dead.
