To Men From Mighty Nations Come

To men from mighty nations come,
Where men are full of greed,
Where demons dance and breed,
Where affluence and idols home:
In short a country dead in sins,
Of pride, adultery,
Of hate, and sorcery,
For them I now take up my pen:
To saints entrenched in holy war,
Who worldlings seek to mold,
In sins both new and old,
Those battered, bruised, and battle-sore,
Who fight for God for all their life,
This fight from start of man,
In every time and land,
That culminated with our Christ:
My brothers, you are Jesus’ bride,
You are not of the world,
You serve another lord,
They have no power of your lives.
For He has given life to you,
And with His Spirit filled,
When your old man was killed,
So Christ Himself will see you through.
You need not fear the plots of man,
But fear the Lord your God,
With honor and with love,
Who died for you when you were damned.
Such love, such grace, such sacrifice!
What demon poses threat?
Or who renews our debt?
Who dare declare He not suffice?
The devil must bow down to Him,
His name placed on your life,
That name of Jesus Christ,
Which gathers truth and purges sin.
God’s love endures though demons rage,
Though men still hate and boast,
Possessed by Satan’s hosts,
And thus pervert the world God made.
Then serve the Lord and love His bride,
Renew your mind in Him,
His grace to cleanse your sin,
And trusting Him to sanctify.
We trust that as He saves our souls,
He seeks to, by His church,
Transform this sinful earth,
His glory then our only goal.

Loving the Unlovable (I John 4:2-5:2)

To love the Father, love His child,
For if you hate His son in heart,
Then you are shown a loveless liar,
Devoid of God, blind in the dark.
If you hate him whom God appointed,
For you to fellowship on earth,
Then how can you love His Anointed,
The Son invisible to search?

And this is what the Lord’s commanding,
The primest of the christian goals:
To love our neighbor, undemanding,
To make our love for God more whole.
For those who love God do His bidding,
Place Him as Lord over your life.
Surrender to Him unremitting,
To answer but the will of Christ.

For will the Father heed our prayer,
Who hate the brother that He loves?
You are related – neither greater,
And fellow heirs of Jesus’ blood.
Then love on earth his imperfection,
To show your love for God who saved,
Both you and him through resurrection,
When He ascended from the grave.

Desperate Need (I John 3:19-24)

How desperately I need Thee, Lord,
To guard me and to feed me,
And nurtured by Thy holy word,
With blessing when I heed Thee.
But I could never feel Thee, Lord,
With flesh since Thou art spirit.
Thy mighty hand I can not see,
I can not taste or hear it.

How desperately I need thee, Lord,
I can not even seek Thee,
I cannot see, but Thou canst see,
To comfort and release me.
Assurance comes from Thee, my Lord,
And through Thy power only,
I know I’m thine for Thou hast claimed,
To mold me to Thy glory.

How desperately I need Thee, Lord,
In weakness I have sought Thee,
My prayer for deliverance,
From vile vice that fought me.
And Thou hast heard my prayer, Lord,
And so I know Thou savest,
And with Thy will my soul sustained,
Relationship Thou gavest.

How desperately I need Thee, Lord,
And Thou in me abidest,
That in Thy power I may live,
Thy Spirit then to ride with.
And Thou hast made Thy home in me,
And with Thy scripture fed me,
Thy Law and Spirit filling me,
And promise yet to wed me!
