Stalemate with Goliath (I Samuel 17:1-29)

The battle with the Devil stretches on,
And we are locked in deadlock's brutal grip.
Each night within the trenches lasts too long,
While foemen rise to mock us with contempt.
The Devil's weapons are in deadly form,
A rifled javelin and hefty spear,
Artillery that we can not absorb,
Yet has he not insulted God with sneers?
Yet God gives us needful materiel,
And He'll sustain us over no-man's-land,
Before His breath all enemies will fall,
No matter how gigantic is the man.
For God will silence all the Devil's guns,
Before our sling the giant comes undone.
