King’s Orders (Acts 1:1-5)

You do not choose what you were called to do.
The one who calls, the King, commands to you.
He issued orders, and you must obey,
No matter what excuses you may say.
But you are called to share the Gospel news,
If you the Holy Spirit has infused,
For God has named us witness to His word,
So we must preach the message we have heard.
Then trust in Him, for He empowers you,
To do His work and preach that precious news.
God works through weakness just as you or me,
To summon son into eternity.

Sovereignty

The nations rage, and rulers plot their gain,
A certainty of suffering we own,
Since they for pride have all the prophets slain –
They murdered Abel and had Stephen stoned –
And yet we serve a sovereign, loving God,
Who authored history to His plan and will,
The schemes of man are then a mere facade,
Rebellion served Him when it Jesus killed.
There is no rival to His rule imposed,
He does not struggle to sustain His throne.
Creating all, all serve – His friends, His foes,
All accidentally make His glory known.
The nations’ plots and threats, and treachery,
Do but the will that God ordained to be.

Psalm 29: Our Mighty God

You mighty children of the King,
Come listen to me as I sing,
And render to the Lord His due,
And give Him strength and glory too.
Yes, render glory to His name,
And bow in holiness arrayed.
Boast not in deeds that you have done,
For God alone has seen them done.
The splendor of your native land,
Was given by Jehovah’s hand.
Your wickedness and ugly sin,
Are covered and atoned by Him.
Jehovah’s voice is over seas,
The waters of my enemies,
And there was light! When thunder blows,
Who walks upon the tempest’s throes.
Jehovah’s voice in power is,
And majesty is always His,
Who makes a road where waters were,
And all His enemies deters.
Jehovah’s voice has shattered trees,
And sycamores he breaks with ease,
Who causes cedars to be felled,
To make a house in which to dwell.
He frightens every foreign foe,
And every nation He will own,
That they will dance with joy renewed,
As little calves who see their food.
Jehovah’s voice in fire spews,
As over Egypt which he hewed.
In tongues of fire He descends,
To every nation grace extends.
Jehovah’s voice the deserts shake,
And over darkness dawn will break,
And Elath writhes in labor pains,
He strips the forests in His claim.
In wonder let us glory shout,
To God who brought the flood about.
Jehovah reigns, and Him alone!
Jehovah sits on kingly throne,
And all His sons in strength increase,
He fills our hearts with holy peace.
You mighty men, in awe bow down,
Before Him cast your feeble crown,
And boldly ride against the foe,
For in the strength of Christ you go.
