Response to Grief

Lord, fill my heart with Your immortal strength,
When I’m completely overwhelmed with grief.
Purge anger and denials I believe.
And comfort me when I’m too weak to weep.

Lord, fill my mind with Your immortal strength.
When others threaten me for my mistakes.
Lord, fill my lisping tongue with words of grace,
And guide me in the actions I should take.

Lord, fill my arm with Your immortal strength.
That I may execute the work You made for me.
To persevere, exhausted though I be,
Your justice purging our iniquity.

In His Refuge We Will Trust (Psalm 46)

God Himself is our Defender,
In our crisis ever near.
Naught to me can fearing tender,
Though the mountains break,
Though earth and sea may shake,
In Jesus Christ I have no fear.
Emmanuel, God is with us,
And in His refuge we will trust.

In God's city flows a river,
Gladness to His people proved,
Living water, Christ, Deliverer,
Nations rage and fall,
Before Jehovah's call,
And yet His church will not be moved.
Emmanuel, God is with us,
And in His refuge we will trust.

All God's holy works remember,
Who holds desolation's store.
Breaking tools of war asunder,
So be still and know,
Our God is God alone,
Let Him be praised forevermore!
Emmanuel, God is with us,
And in His refuge we will trust.

The Deer (Psalm 42)

I’m as a roebuck in a desert clime,
For safety from the hunting wolves I pine,
For water but to cool my panting tongue,
So thirsts my soul to see the Holy One.
I sorely long to meet the living Lord;
When will the fellowship be once restored?
My enemies still taunt and hound my way:
“Where is this fruitless god to which you pray?”
They torment, too, my brothers in the faith,
I weep o’er all the tortures that they face.
They steal our joy, devouring as beef,
And so my soul is all-consumed in grief.
But I remember how we led the praise,
Wholehearted worship to the Lord of Days.
Why am I overcast and, groaning, weep?
No, I will hope. For I’ve a faith to keep.
For once again I’ll give Jehovah praise,
As He has promised me to show me grace.
This time of trial, drought, and distantness,
Will build my trust in God’s great faithfulness.
