Guide Me, Lord (I Samuel 23:1-14)

Guide me, Lord, the way that I should go.
Demonstrate to me what I should do.
Strengthen me to act as You will show.
Make my mission pleasing unto You.

I will not shrink from work which is not mine,
Though it endangers me before my foes.
I will fulfill my call from the Divine,
And swerve not to the culture's ebbs and flows.

When enemies surround and pressure me;
When those I helped betray me to the sword;
When I'm cut off from any way to flee;
Speak to me, I wait upon Your word.

I do not trust in human strength or faith,
I do not hope in impregnable walls,
But in Your hand will be my hiding place;
My only refuge is the Lord of All.

The Refuge ( I Samuel 21:10-22:5)

You are the refuge that I seek,
I look not to Your enemies.
There is no haven but with You,
When wicked men hate and pursue.

Not in a friendly prince's court,
Is true salvation, but the Lord,
May use such means to fortify,
The saints on whom He rests His eyes.

Among Your people I will rest,
Though that's no guard against distress.
Your spirit only is my trust,
For You have raised me from the dust.

So I will follow where You lead,
I trust You will supply my needs.
With God alone I'll safely dwell,
Who drives off all the hounds of hell.

My Day of Tribulation (I Samuel 19)

In my day of tribulation,
When I'm pressed on every side,
I seek refuge for salvation,
In what bulwark shall I hide?
Though the state is made for justice,
Though I'm friends with those on high,
Government fails those who trust it,
Statist power is shown a lie.

Shall I turn to friends and family?
Peace is good to find at home.
Even those who understand me,
Can not keep my heart from doom.
Look to Christ for your redemption,
He can save from any lurch.
Other refuge is pretension,
Without Jesus and His church.
