I Peter 2:13-17: Civil Disobedience

Then what is a Christian to do,
If submission would slander the truth?
Submit “on account of the Lord,”
Then what if His laws are deplored?
When kings who well should,
Protect what is good,
Instead only evil reward?

God’s will is to silence His foes,
Be sure then He will interpose.
If good works and preaching will fail,
Then do not loose heart or turn pale,
We could disobey,
Or else flee away,
Yet what does our freedom entail?

Our good works we do as free-men,
As servants to God not to sin.
You’re free then to disobey man,
Yet graciously as God commands.
Then always do right,
In fight or in flight,
For we must serve God and not man.
