Rend the Sky (Isaiah 64)

O that You would rend the sky,
And show Your power, Adonai.
With judgment and with Sinai’s ire,
Consume the wicked world in fire.
The rocks would boil, earth would churn,
The sea and firmament would burn,
All evil things would melt away,
If You revealed Yourself today.

Yet if in judgment You appear,
Then I would surely shrink in fear,
For woe is me! I am undone!
I am unclean, a rebel’s son,
And with the wicked I should fall,
Before the dreadful Lord of All.
Yet before God — His arm laid bare —
I find (what grace!) my life is spared.

The arm of God’s revealed in Christ,
My Savior and my sacrifice,
His blood has washed me and restored,
Communion with the holy Lord.
For all my good works are deceit,
I’m helpless as a withered leaf.
I cannot on my own bear fruit,
Unless I’m in the vine that’s You.

O that You would rend the sky!
If You yet hide Your face, we die.
Do not be angry over-much,
But raise Your people from the dust.
Oh, bring revival to our land,
Restore your children from the damned,
That all the world may bow and see,
You unrestrained in majesty.
